Mailchimp Integration for CubeCart

CubeCart ships a free Mailchimp plugin, and for some stores it is enough: it copies newsletter sign-ups into a Mailchimp audience. Our plugin is for stores that want Mailchimp to do the work it is actually capable of, which needs far more than an email address.

It keeps your audience, customers, products, orders and live baskets in step with Mailchimp automatically, and it does all of it in the background so nothing a customer does at checkout is ever slowed down or put at risk by Mailchimp being slow.

What it syncs

Newsletter subscribers, both ways. Someone subscribing in your store is added to your Mailchimp audience, and an unsubscribe, cleaned address or email change in Mailchimp is written back to your store, so you can never mail somebody who has opted out.
Only people who actually opted in. Registering an account is not treated as consent, and if you use double opt-in nothing is sent until the customer confirms.
Customers with their buying history. First and last name, phone, country, number of orders and lifetime spend, all as Mailchimp merge fields you can segment and personalise on.
Products, orders and baskets. Your catalogue with prices, images and links, your orders with the correct payment and delivery status, and live baskets. The basket is removed from Mailchimp the moment the order is placed, so nobody is chased about a basket they have already paid for.
Your discount codes. Store coupons are published to Mailchimp as promo codes, so a campaign can carry a working discount and Mailchimp can attribute the revenue each one earns.
Tags for segmentation. Contacts can be tagged with their customer group and whether they have ordered, which is what Mailchimp segments and automations are built on.

What that lets Mailchimp do

Segment on real spending: customers who have spent over a certain amount, or who have never ordered at all.
Abandoned basket automations that know what was in the basket.
Product retargeting based on what somebody actually bought or viewed.
Revenue attributed back to individual campaigns, because orders are linked to the emails that produced them.

Keeping the two in step

A customer deleted in your store has their Mailchimp contact archived, or erased permanently if you choose, which is what a GDPR erasure request calls for.
A customer who changes their email moves the existing contact rather than leaving a duplicate behind with the old address still receiving campaigns.
An order deleted in your store is removed from Mailchimp, so campaign revenue stops counting an order you no longer have.

Things worth knowing

The plugin never sends an email itself. It keeps the data in step, and every campaign or automation is still created and sent by you inside Mailchimp, on your own schedule. Your Mailchimp account is your own and nothing in it is shared with us.

Mailchimp’s free tier works with this plugin, though the automations that the e-commerce data feeds, such as abandoned basket and product retargeting, are on their paid plans. Requires CubeCart 6.6 or later and the ionCube Loader.

Our plugin replaces CubeCart’s free Mailchimp plugin rather than running alongside it. Both answer the same events, so with both enabled every sign-up would reach Mailchimp twice. If CubeCart’s plugin is installed, ours switches it off for you and tells you it has done so. Nothing is deleted, so you can put it back at any time.
